phylum Chordata Deinosuchus is an extinct genus of crocodilian, among the largest that ever lived. Fossil specimens have been estimated to have reached lengths exceeding 10 meters. Remains occur in North America, on both sides of what was the Western Interior Seaway that divided the continent in two during the Late Cretaceous. The closest living relatives of Deinosuchus are evidently the alligators, and osteologically it resembles an extremely large alligator.
