Scolosaurus was depicted in mid-20th century art as a squat ankylosaur with a short, double-spined tail. This was due to misinterpretation of the fossil specimen, which had an incomplete tail. The animal in life would have more closely resembled Euoplocephalus. In fact, it was long considered a synonym of Euoplocephalus, and many pre-2010s Euoplocephalus reconstructions are actually hybrids of Eupolocephalus and Scolosaurus.
