phylum Chordata Ambystoma tigrinum, the tiger salamander or eastern tiger salamander is a North American species of mole salamander. Length is typically 6-8 in (15-20 cm) and a maximum of 14 in (36 cm). Adults are usually blotch with grey, green or black. They have large, lidded eyes, short snouts, thick necks, sturdy legs, and long tails. Their diet consists of small insects and worms, and small frogs and baby mice. They live in burrows, but return to water to breed.
