phylum Arthropoda Capitulum mitella, or Japanese goose barnacle, is the only species of the monotypic genus Capitulum. It is found on rocky shores in the Indo-Pacific zone. The leathery stalk or peduncle is about 5 cm (2 in) long. The upper region or capitulum is protected by 8 large scales, containing the legs that filter the zooplankton.
