phylum Chordata Pelecanimimus is an extinct genus of ornithomosaurian dinosaur known from the Early Cretaceous of Spain. It was probably one of the basal members of the group, as suggested by the fact that it precedes most other ornithomimosaurs in the fossil record, and the fact that both upper and lower jaws had teeth, whereas later relatives were toothless or had teeth only in the lower jaw. It had about 220 small teeth, in the dentary, maxilla, and premaxilla. Pelecanimimus was small, 2 - 2.5 metres in length, and the specimen shows outlines of a pouch on the throat and a crest on the back of the head.
